Why did you decide to become a teacher? After 16 years in business management, I just found myself lacking the passion I once had for my career. After being a long term sub for the majority of a school year, I found myself reignited with a passion I had never had before. My "why" I became a teacher is multi-faceted. It's answering the call to become a teacher in our community. It's the thrill I get when I see the lightbulb go off in a child. It's being a positive influence in the life of a child. It's the relationships that I form with the students and their families. It's knowing that I am serving something so much higher than myself. It's every single child that has entered my classroom. To date, I have over 150 "reasons" that have called me "Mrs. Yorty". They are my ultimate "why" I became a teacher.
What do you like most about teaching? I love discovering the key that unlocks education for a student. It's a challenge, it's frustrating, the first try rarely works, but what a payoff when the student has an "aha" moment.
What hobbies do you enjoy in your free time? I enjoy crafting, paddle-boarding, and traveling with my family.
